Last not least environment is also becoming an important issue. Some Black Powder substitutes available in the market contain Clorates/Perchlorates which release large amounts of Hydrochloric acid or even worse poisonous reaction products during combustion. This is especially true for Ammonium Perchlorate based propellants. The new powders do not contain any poisonous compounds. None of the ingredients are toxic or contain Chlorates/Perchlorates, Chromates or any heavy metals. Apart from their use as a Black Powder substitute and due to their many unique properties it remains to be seen whether new fields of applications can be found for the newly invented powders.
